Sama yaay
This is a picture of my mom in one of the villages I stayed in. It's amazing how much they can carry around.
I got all 8 rolls of my film developed but it is kinda sad for me to look at the pictures just cause I wish they could convey so much more of my experience in Senegal. Oh well. It's good to be home right now. I had a long trip here and hardly slept at all. I got up at 8am the day we left Dakar but our plane didn't leave till 3am. So I was awake all day and then slept maybe 2.5 hours on the 8 hour plane ride to New York. We got to NY at 6am and Amy's family flew into JFK at 8am so we met them as they got off their plane. Then Amy, her family and I took a cab downtown NY, dropped our bags off at their hotel and hit the town. It was freezing!!! 24 degrees not taking into account the wind chill factor. I had no coat and was used to tank top and skirts weather. It was quite a shock. We walked around and saw Times Square, Central Park, Rockefeller Center, big christmas tree, ice skating rink, etc. Had my first Starbucks drink in a while. Sadly, it wasn't too great. I eventually got too cold to move and went back to the hotel and literally sat on the heater for about an hour. Then I took a hot shower and took a shuttle back to JFK. My plane left at 8pm and I arrived in Seattle 5 hours later. I think I slept 2 hours on that flight. Not enough. A week later I have finally recovered from the lack of sleep.
This break has been great so far. Lots of hanging out with family and friends. I've been looking at grad schools a lot which is really weird to me. College is going by fast!
