My 1st Day in Walla Walla
I am sitting in the "outdoor house" at Whitman college right now watching a game of rugby out the window from Amy's desk. I had never been to Walla Walla before and it is such a beautiful campus. It seems too perfect or something. Yesterday I got a tour...the grass is green and perfectly cut, everything is in bloom, there are little streams with ducks and cute bridges that go over them. A lot of the buildings are new and are absolutely amazing. People walk around campus barefoot and most people know eachother, so everyone is always saying hi to people they pass. Yesterday the weather was awesome with lots of sun and blue skies. It almost reminded me of the town Spectre, if any of you have seen the movie Big Fish.
I got here Thursday night just in time for the 79th annual choral contest. Amy's group won, which was cool because they totally weren't expecting to. Each group that performed (the groups were the frats and sororities and the independents) did a traditional and a contemporary song. Some of them were quite entertaining. Friday Amy and I slept in and then I got the campus tour and we went downtown Walla Walla for lunch at Merchants. The afternoon consisted of studying and taking a nap. For dinner we had taco truck, which are these random taco trucks scattered about town who give you huge burritos. We then checked out the senior art thesis exhibit, grabbed scrabble, and headed to a coffee house where Raining Jain was playing. We ate some gigantic ice cream cones and listened to some really good music.
Then, for the most "interesting" part of the night, we went to Drag Fest. Yeah...basically people just get really into dressing as the opposite gender and spend the night dancing in a hot and smelly room with loud music. The guys get the most excited about it. We stayed for about a minute so I could experience it...a minute was definitely long enough. ;)
Another highlight of the night was I got to see the pool where my parents met! They were both on the swim team at Whitman and my dad says he went to the pool one day and my mom was on his diving board. Sorry dad, but they took out the diving boards a couple years ago...but I still got to see the pool! I guess they are getting rid of that building though soon.
I'm not sure what the plans are for today. Probably some studying at Starbucks then dinner with Amy Cheney, my old tennis partner from high school.

Hmmm, I don't seem to remember the drag parties when I went to Whitman. Must be all those repressed valedictorians who like wearing heels?
Also, The prison! You didn't get to go see the Walla Walla State Pen. A fine institute with excellent cuisine.
And you didn't get the Whitman steam tunnel tour, which takes a good lock picker with headlamp and an affinity for rats.
Good report on the old Alma Mater, makes me wish I was 19 again and pulling rye grass out in the wheat fields of Walla Walla for summer fun.
