Turkish Delight

Today I got to try Turkish delight. My aunt and uncle just returned from Turkey and brought it over. Authentic, straight from Istanbul. I imagined that I was in Narnia while I took my first bite - but I was quite disappointed and don't understand why Edmund would ask for this particular food out of all the choices in the world. The treat was not a treat to me at all. It tasted like I was eating perfume (rose flavored). Yuck. I then tried a pistachio flavored piece which wasn't as bad, but still. What was he thinking?

Maybe more like, what were YOU t hinking?? I just tried MY first Turkish Delight, straight from turkey, in a box which may be identical to yours, b/c there was pistachio, hazelnut, lemon, and rose. I was extremely skeptical of the rose, but it was quite pleasing! I LIKE turkish delight. Not to mention it was from Joel which he found secretely after our month long search across the UK for it! Turkish Delight is great, and Edmund was not so silly as you think!

Keep in mind also that Edmund is from a culture where the cuisine is about as inviting as the weather. I wonder if there's a correlation there...

However, Turkish cuisine AND weather (if you don't count the earthquakes) are QUITE pleasant. Hmmm...

Hi Jamie,

We just watched a travel video of Turkey last night, and discovered that Turkish Delight was the favored treat of the kings and queens is those days. I think Edmund was just trying to exalt himself....in more ways than one. The allegory lives on.....! But I agree with you, I was quite disappointed the first time I tried it (we bought some at the Greek festival one year.

Love, Ridgely
