Deputation

1. a person or group appointed to represent another or others; a delegation
2. a. the act of deputing. b. the state of being deputed

I have applied to the World Deputation program at University Presbyterian Church (UPC) in Seattle. I go to the college group there (the INN). This means that, Lord willing, this summer I will be spending two months somewhere in the world serving and loving those I come in contact with. This program is kind of crazy because when you apply, you agree to not choose where you are sent or who you go with. It is such a wonderful feeling to say, "here I am Lord, send me anywhere" but it is also terrifying to not have any control.

I have been going to weekly meetings with other people who have applied for the program, and we have spent time with the committee members who (with much prayer) will be deciding the teams and locations. This coming Tuesday we will find out where we are going, who are teams will be, and what we will be doing. I can't wait!!!! I am so excited to travel, to be in a community that is committed to loving and serving others as well as each other, and to experience a new culture. I am hoping that this experience will give me a better idea of what kind of work I would like to do (or would not like to do) in the future, as I will be graduating this June. I'll try to keep this blog updated about Deputation.
