African Dance
I thought I would talk some more about the village.
One night the people got all the students together and gave us traditional Senegalese clothes to wear. We all sat in a circle on benches with lots of people from the village families. A couple guys were going at it on the drums and they MADE us each go in the center of the circle with all the people watching and try to dance. Yeah...I definitly don't know how to dance the way the Senegalese do. When it was my turn, they pulled me out in the center and one of our family members was supposed to go out and dance with us so we would not be completely alone. I looked around the big circle and could not find anyone from my family. Apparently just as I was leaving to go to this gathering, an older lady who lived next door to us died. She had been sick, but no one informed me of this.My family had all stayed home. So there I was all alone not really knowing what to do, but some random person ran out there and started dancing in front of me. So I gave it my best shot in my dress that I couldn't walk in. It was amusing.
Also, two nights ago there was this big gathering of people in my neighborhood and Amy and I got to see all these women really dressed up with their hair done and lots of make up dance like crazy. It was really cool.

Good story. I bet you did some moves from your Whatcom Middle School days (or at least imitating the WMS 8th grade guys.)
Funny sweaty, dancing Americans, hot, crowds of people. I bet this is the highlight of the whole Village week! No wonder they like hosting visiting students.
Since they all have their TV's, I bet they were all thinking while you were out there : "Le Seinfeld, Elaine". Bon dancer, Oui. Formidable!
